Biography

Dr. Pearlman is a board-certified dermatologist and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Skin Angels, the largest network of skin-focused early-stage investors.  He is the CEO and co-founder of Stratum Biosciences, a biotech startup using custom AI to decode skin’s microscopic structure and drive breakthrough discovery and product development.

Prior to starting Skin Angels and Stratum Biosciences, he sub-specialized in cosmetic and surgical dermatology in a combined fellowship at Northwestern University in Chicago under the direction of Dr. Murad Alam. He has authored over 40 peer-reviewed journal articles and textbook chapters on cosmetic dermatology and cutaneous oncology along with educational articles for dermatologists on application of AI/ML and big data in dermatology.

Prior to co-founding Stratum, he built a catalog of experience using cutting-edge tools with big-data in healthcare and science. In 2021, he received the American Dermatological Association Resident Research Award, the highest honor bestowed on residents by the organization, for integrating dermatology’s clinical data registry into Epic™ EHR for the first time. Subsequently, he helped guide the AAD in a complete rebuild of the world’s largest big-data platform for dermatology, DataDerm™. In Fall 2022, he led a multidisciplinary team at Northwestern Medicine to win the Innovation Grant Challenge to develop strategies for automating prior authorizations (PAs) for drugs. In his free time, he enjoys skiing, flyfishing, backpacking, and studying enology.
