Biography

Dr. Van Beek currently serves as the Executive Medical Director of Ambulatory Care for the University of Iowa Health Care System.  She holds the C. William Hanke Professor of Dermatologic Surgery & Cutaneous Oncology and is director of the ACGME fellowship in Micrographic Surgery and Dermatologic Oncology.  She performs Mohs surgery both at the University of Iowa and the Iowa City Veterans Affairs Medical Center.

Dr. Van Beek has a long interest in health policy, previously serving as an officer and on the boards of several national medical specialty organizations.  She was instrumental in implementing the national registry for the American Academy of Dermatology, DataDerm^TM, which is used for advocacy in preserving the patient physician relationship, physician payment, and as a training set for several artificial intelligence tools.  She currently serves on the board of the American College of Mohs Surgery, and as a Trustee on the Board for the American Medical Association.
